Climate17 is proud to partner with a specialist renewable energy developer, supporting utility-scale solar, wind, BESS, and data centre projects across markets including CAISO, MISO, PJM, and SPP. Working as part of a lean, entrepreneurial team, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership, influence how the business operates, and play a key role in supporting both project development and future growth.

  • Position: GIS Manager
  • Location: Remote, United States
  • Travel: Occasional travel as required
  • Contract: This is a 1099 position

Your Opportunity

As GIS Project Manager, you'll take ownership of the company's GIS function, providing technical mapping, spatial analysis and project support across utility-scale renewable energy and data centre developments. You'll work closely with development and leadership teams to support land, environmental, infrastructure and project suitability decisions, while also managing data and improving internal GIS processes.

This is a hands-on role within a small, entrepreneurial team, suited to someone who is technically strong, highly organised and comfortable taking ownership of projects and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage GIS activities across utility-scale solar, wind, BESS and data centre development projects
  • Produce high-quality maps, lease exhibits, site plans and other GIS deliverables for internal teams, landowners, investors and development partners
  • Conduct spatial analysis to support site selection, land acquisition, environmental review, infrastructure assessment and project development
  • Maintain and manage spatial datasets relating to land, grid, environmental constraints and development opportunities
  • Manage GIS data rooms, KMZ files and associated project information, ensuring information is accurate, organised and accessible
  • Develop and improve GIS workflows, standards and processes to increase efficiency and consistency across the business
  • Work closely with development, land, engineering and leadership teams to understand project requirements and deliver appropriate GIS solutions
  • Manage and mentor junior GIS team members, including setting priorities, reviewing work and providing technical guidance
  • Train internal stakeholders on GIS and Google Earth tools where appropriate to improve team efficiency

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science or a related discipline
  • 3-5 years' GIS experience, ideally supporting renewable energy, infrastructure, utilities or land development
  • Strong proficiency in QGIS or ArcGIS Pro, with experience using Google Earth and other relevant mapping platforms
  • Experience producing lease exhibits, project maps, site analysis and other development-focused GIS deliverables
  • Strong understanding of spatial data management and experience working with large, complex datasets
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver work to deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proactive and accountable approach, with the confidence to take ownership and improve processes rather than simply follow existing workflows
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where priorities can change and flexibility is important
