Senior Associate / Manager, Power Markets & Asset Optimization
Austin, TX | Hybrid, 4 days in office
$120,000 - $170,000 base + bonus
Climate17 is partnering with a growing renewable energy owner and operator to appoint a Senior Associate or Manager within Power Markets and Asset Optimization.
This is a newly created position offering significant ownership within a lean commercial team. The successful candidate will help optimize the commercial performance of an operating renewable energy portfolio, combining ERCOT market analysis, hedging strategy and hands-on market execution.
The position can be appointed at Senior Associate or Manager level depending on experience and is well suited to someone looking for greater responsibility, direct exposure to senior decision-makers and the opportunity to influence how commercial processes and capabilities develop as the portfolio grows.
The Role
You will take responsibility for evaluating market exposure and translating that analysis into actionable commercial strategies across operating renewable assets.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Analyze and actively manage nodal pricing, congestion, curtailment and nodal-to-hub basis exposure.
- Develop commercial and hedging strategies using appropriate physical and financial market products.
- Support and execute activity across ERCOT Day-Ahead and Real-Time Markets.
- Develop and evaluate DART strategies.
- Work with CRRs/PTPs, Ancillary Services and related congestion products.
- Analyze transmission constraints, market fundamentals and changing ERCOT market dynamics.
- Evaluate realized commercial performance against forecasts and expected outcomes.
- Build and improve analytical tools supporting pricing, forecasting and portfolio optimization.
- Use automation and emerging analytical technologies to improve forecasting, reporting and commercial decision-making.
- Present market views, risks and commercial recommendations directly to senior stakeholders.
- Help establish scalable processes and best practices as the commercial function and operating portfolio expand.
What We're Looking For
The priority is someone who can bring existing ERCOT commercial expertise into the business, rather than someone requiring extensive training in power markets.
You should have:
- Approximately 5+ years of relevant US power markets, energy trading, commercial or asset optimization experience.
- Strong knowledge of ERCOT and its market structure.
- Experience with renewable generation, ideally utility-scale solar.
- Practical understanding of nodal pricing, congestion and basis risk.
- Knowledge of DAM/RTM, DART, CRRs/PTPs and Ancillary Services.
- Experience personally executing or submitting market bids, offers or auction activity.
- Strong quantitative, Excel and modeling capability.
- Ability to turn detailed market analysis into clear commercial recommendations.
- US work authorization without the requirement for sponsorship.
Experience with BESS optimization, market modeling platforms, ETRM systems, financial hedging agreements and AI/ML applications would be advantageous but is not essential for every candidate.
Why Consider the Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to join a well-capitalized renewable energy platform at an important stage of its US growth.
The US organization deliberately operates with a lean structure, giving individual employees considerably more responsibility and visibility than would typically be available within a larger IPP. The culture is collaborative and hands-on, with employees encouraged to bring ideas, challenge existing approaches and help establish best practices rather than simply inherit established processes.
For this particular hire, that means the opportunity to:
- Take genuine ownership of commercial and asset optimization activities.
- Work closely with senior leadership and influence commercial decisions.
- Help shape processes and analytical capabilities as the portfolio expands.
- Join a business with operating assets and continued investment behind its growth plans.
- Develop alongside a growing US organization rather than stepping into a narrowly defined role within a large established team.
Compensation & Benefits
The position can be appointed at different levels depending on experience:
Senior Associate: $120,000 - $140,000 base + target bonus
Manager: $150,000 - $170,000 base + target bonus
Benefits include 401(k), medical, dental, vision and life insurance, PTO, floating holidays and sick leave.
A substantial relocation package is available for candidates relocating to Austin.
The position is based in Austin, Texas, with four days per week in the office.
