Environmental & Social Manager

Climate17 | London | Hybrid | Full-time

Are you an experienced Environmental & Social (E&S) professional looking to apply your expertise to international infrastructure projects?

Climate17 is working with a specialist infrastructure organisation to recruit an Environmental & Social Manager for its London team. Delivering turnkey projects across healthcare, digital technology and government administration, our client operates across Africa and Southeast Asia, working with public-sector clients, international lenders, regulators and local communities.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of environmental and social requirements across the project lifecycle, helping identify and manage risks, oversee technical deliverables and ensure compliance with national regulations and international standards.

The role

Reporting to the Global E&S Director, you will work across pre-sales, design, construction and operations, managing environmental and social requirements from early-stage due diligence through to construction and operational monitoring.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying and assessing E&S risks through due diligence, screening and scoping.

  • Procuring and managing consultants responsible for ESIAs, ESMPs, SEPs and other E&S deliverables.

  • Preparing scopes of work, issuing RFPs, selecting contractors and overseeing E&S contracts.

  • Reviewing technical documentation and ensuring deliverables meet regulatory, lender and project requirements.

  • Supporting site-based HSE and Community Liaison teams with compliance, stakeholder engagement and complaints management.

  • Coordinating environmental permitting, regulatory submissions and lender reporting.

  • Monitoring compliance during construction and operation, ensuring corrective actions are implemented where required.

About you

You will bring at least 10 years' environmental and social consultancy experience within industry or the built environment, alongside a strong understanding of ESIAs and international E&S compliance.

You should have experience preparing, managing or reviewing ESIAs, ESMPs, SEPs and E&S monitoring reports, together with familiarity with the Equator Principles IV, IFC Performance Standards, World Bank EHS Guidelines and OECD Common Approaches.

Excellent technical writing and reviewing skills, strong stakeholder management and the ability to work autonomously across multicultural teams are essential.

A Master's degree in a relevant discipline and membership of a professional body such as ISEP are highly desirable. Experience in West Africa or Indonesia and French language skills would also be advantageous.

The opportunity

Based in London on a hybrid basis, this role offers the chance to influence the environmental and social performance of complex international infrastructure projects, working with stakeholders across Africa and Southeast Asia.

International travel to project sites will be required.
