Commissioning & Field Service Technician – BESS

Role

Our client is a growing renewable energy and HV Engineering business supporting the delivery of Projects, commissioning and O&M of utility-scale BESS and Solar PV assets across the UK.

They are looking to appoint a LV Commissioning & Field Service Technician to work alongside a major BESS OEM’s Operational Support team with the installation, testing and commissioning of BESS projects, focussing on LV electrical activities, fault finding and project documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Support the BESS OEM’s Operational Support team with the installation, testing and commissioning of utility-scale BESS assets.
  • Undertake LV electrical testing, inspection and verification, following approved commissioning procedures, RAMS and safe systems of work.
  • Assist with energisation, functional testing, system validation and equipment handover, ensuring systems meet required standards.
  • Carry out fault finding and diagnostics across LV distribution, auxiliary supplies, control panels, cabling and associated BESS equipment.
  • Inspect and test BESS auxiliary systems, including HVAC, fire detection/suppression, battery enclosures and communications equipment.
  • Investigate and resolve commissioning defects, installation issues and system alarms, working alongside OEM engineers, subcontractors and other technical specialists.
  • Complete accurate commissioning and project documentation, including test sheets, inspection records, defect lists, service reports and photographic evidence, while tracking remedial actions and outstanding works.
  • Review installations against drawings, specifications and manufacturer requirements, escalating non-conformances and supporting planned maintenance, corrective works and post-commissioning visits.
  • Liaise with project managers, commissioning engineers, clients and site teams to coordinate activities, resolve technical issues and ensure projects are delivered safely, to specification and on schedule.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to improve commissioning processes, installation quality, system reliability and future project delivery.

Requirements

  • ECS JIB Gold Card Electrician – Essential
  • 3+ years’ utility-scale BESS, Solar PV power generation or HV/LV electrical maintenance.
  • Practical experience working with solar inverters and associated LV/HV equipment.
  • Previous exposure to battery energy storage systems would be highly advantageous.
  • An understanding of BESS auxiliary systems such as HVAC, fire detection/suppression and control systems would be beneficial.
  • Strong approach to health & safety, documentation and quality will be essential.
  • Experience carrying out planned and reactive maintenance and electrical fault finding.
  • A strong understanding of safe systems of work, RAMS and permit-to-work procedures.
  • A full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel throughout the UK, including at short notice

 

Location:          West Yorkshire – Nationwide travel as required.
