Announcing our new charity partnership with Michael House

We are delighted to announce our charity partnership with Michael House. A brilliant local charity based in Boscombe, they offer a safe and supportive drug and alcohol-free environment for people rebuilding their lives.

The main house is a mixed-gender hostel with space for 25 people, one of only a few dog-friendly hostels in the UK. Michael House runs an ever-changing roster of in-house activities for its residents, so they can try new things and build their esteem. Activities have included baking, creative writing, sewing, crafts and conservation projects. Residents also have the opportunity for learning and development, with formally-recognised certifications of achievements through the AQA Unit Award Scheme.

On 12th January, Chief Executive of Michael House Mark Horsford kindly visited our offices so we could learn more about their remarkable work, and what Climate17 can do to help. "It was wonderful to meet the team at Climate17 and talk about the work of Michael House," said Mark Horsford. "We're very excited to be working with Climate17 in 2022, together we'll be able to make more of a difference to the vulnerable people that we support."

This year we will be engaging in fundraising activities to support the charity’s mission. Our fundraising goal is to raise £4,000 for a new consultation room. Michael House currently does all of their new resident assessments in a garden shed, and so Climate17 would like to help them upgrade this space to a new wood cabin, for use as a consultation room and office space.

Climate17 Director David Blake said: “Michael House is a fantastic charity that is doing amazing work in helping rebuild the lives of people in our local community here in Bournemouth. As part of Climate17’s sustainability commitments, we are pleased to be supporting Michael House as one of our charity partners. We are pleased we have found a local charity that offers so much to local people in need, making a positive social and human impact within our town.”

As a team, we are currently planning a number of fundraising activities – stay tuned here and on our Climate17 LinkedIn page for further developments!
