Were looking for a Commissioning Engineer to take ownership of field testing, integration, and start‑up for battery energy storage assets, ensuring systems perform safely and to specification.
What Youll Do
Youll be hands-on at project sites, balancing electrical testing, controls integration, and performance validation with documentation and client collaboration. Typical activities include:
- Preparing and executing commissioning plans based on project drawings and system design documents.
- Checking and testing electrical and communication systems before and after energization.
- Configuring and verifying protection relays, inverters, PCS, BMS, and EMS parameters.
- Running functional checksprotection trips, dispatch commands, grid response behaviors, and control sequences.
- Conducting system performance evaluations such as charge/discharge tests and round‑trip efficiency runs.
- Integrating SCADA and data communication links and confirming telemetry accuracy.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve field issues across electrical, control, and network systems.
- Coordinate with project managers, utilities, and vendors to align testing, witness events, and acceptance milestones.
- Maintain and close out commissioning records: test data, redlines, and equipment settings backups.
- Champion field safety standards and ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E/855, UL 9540, and site‑specific procedures.
- Deliver concise reporting and end‑user training to support smooth handover and long‑term operations.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or comparable technical experience.
- 3 years in commissioning or field engineering involving energy storage, inverters, or medium-voltage systems.
- Skilled with test instruments (multimeter, insulation tester, IR camera, torque tools).
- Practical understanding of Modbus TCP/RTU; exposure to DNP3 or IEC‑61850 helpful.
- Competent reading and marking up SLDs, control schematics, and network diagrams.
- Experience with protection relays (SEL, GE, Schneider), inverter setup, and BMS/EMS systems.
- Valid drivers license, ability to travel locally, and up-to-date NFPA 70E/OSHA safety training.
- Previous work on PV or hybrid solar‑storage projects.
- Involvement in utility or AHJ witness testing (e.g., with HECO).
- Familiarity with EMS platforms, SCADA historians, and remote monitoring systems.
- Certifications such as NETA II/III, NICET, or SEL University, plus First Aid/CPR.
