Senior Design Engineer – Community Solar
Location: Remote, with preference for Midwest states
Travel: 10%
Compensation: $100,000–$130,000 base approx. 10% performance bonus

We are seeking a hands-on Senior Design Engineer to support the full design of community solar, solar PV, and BESS projects across the central U.S. This role is ideal for someone who has owned end-to-end electrical design, can produce complete drawing packages, and is comfortable taking responsibility for technical design deliverables from concept through construction support. The company is on an exciting trajectory with a highly collaborative team and excellent benefits.

We are looking for an engineer who can design the full system, not just review consultant packages or manage RFIs. This is not an owner’s rep / drawing review role. 

The Role

• Design full electrical systems for solar PV and BESS projects, from concept through detailed design.
• Produce and review AutoCAD drawing sets, single-line diagrams, equipment layouts, grounding, cable routing, and site layouts.
• Support electrical calculations, design packages, and construction-ready deliverables.
• Use tools such as PVsyst, PVcase, CYMCAP, ETAP, AmpCalc, and WinIGS where applicable.
• Work closely with project teams, field teams, and developers to move projects forward.
• Support QA/QC, technical documentation, and design coordination.
• Help mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement.

Your Experience

• 6 years of electrical engineering.
• Strong NEC knowledge.
• Proven experience designing electrical systems end to end.
• Background in solar PV, community solar, BESS, or related electrical design.
• Ability to read, interpret, and produce full electrical drawing sets.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit and solar design software experience is a plus.
• Self-driven, detail-oriented, and comfortable owning deliverables.
• PE licence beneficial but not required.
• Open to strong general-build or industrial electrical engineers looking to transition into solar if they have a solid NEC and design background.
