Project Manager Utility-Scale Solar

A growing renewable energy business is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support the delivery of utility-scale solar projects across the U.S. The role will be based in the companys Washington, DC headquarters and will work closely with internal teams, contractors, inspectors, consultants, local counties, and other agencies to ensure projects are delivered successfully.
This position will oversee projects from the permitting stage through construction closeout and handover to the Operations & Maintenance team. The successful candidate will bring strong project management capability, commercial awareness, and the ability to coordinate multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment.
Role Overview The Project Manager will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of project delivery, including scheduling, contracting, procurement, budget management, subcontractor coordination, reporting, and closeout. Key Responsibilities
- Manage projects from permitting through construction closeout and turnover to O&M.
- Prepare and execute contractor agreements in line with project specifications, budget, and schedule requirements.
- Manage project budgets and cost accounting to help limit financial risk.
- Support drawing takeoffs, estimating, subcontractor agreements, and related commercial activities.
- Coordinate equipment, materials, subcontractors, and vendors to support successful project implementation.
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop and maintain project schedules.
- Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project updates in an organised manner.
- Coordinate contractor mobilisation, inspections, material procurement, and superintendent/site manager activity.
- Resolve drawing conflicts and coordinate problem solving with project consultants and site teams.
- Support project closeout activities including commissioning, training, warranties, and O&M manuals.
- Maintain professional communication with subcontractors, vendors, owners, inspectors, and other project stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development and performance management of direct reports where applicable.
- 4 years of experience in project management, ideally in utility-scale renewable energy or similar construction environments.
- Experience in Virginia or East Coast project delivery is preferred.
- Background in general contracting will also be considered.
- Strong project and case management skills, with the ability to handle multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Good understanding of solar renewable energy construction processes.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Experience with Microsoft Project, P6, or similar scheduling software.
- Ability to manage budgets, contracts, RFIs, and change orders.
- Experience with contractor outreach and project estimating.
- Strong technical understanding of drawings and specifications.
- Confident communicator with strong negotiation and customer service skills.
- Independent thinker who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Team-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work autonomously.
- Bachelors degree in a related or construction management field preferred, though equivalent experience will be considered.
