Climate17 is pleased to be working with a leading renewable energy EPC and O&M provider delivering utility-scale solar PV and battery storage projects across the UK.

With an established track record in the design, construction, and long-term operation of large-scale renewable energy infrastructure, this organisation continues to expand its engineering capability to support a growing pipeline of solar and battery storage developments.

Due to continued growth, they are now seeking an experienced Grid Engineer to play a key role in the delivery of grid connections and electrical infrastructure across utility-scale renewable energy projects.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Grid Engineer to join a growing engineering team delivering critical grid connection solutions for large-scale solar PV and battery energy storage projects.

Working closely with engineering, project delivery, commercial, and external network stakeholders, you'll provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle - from connection design and tendering through construction, commissioning, and energisation.

This role offers significant exposure to high-profile renewable energy projects while providing the opportunity to influence engineering strategy and strengthen relationships across the UK electricity network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop technical specifications, engineering drawings, and documentation to support grid connection works.
  • Lead and oversee the design of grid connections, ensuring compliance with DNO and TSO requirements.
  • Manage relationships with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), Transmission System Operators (TSOs), and Independent Connection Providers (ICPs).
  • Review and optimise equipment selection to ensure compliance with Grid Code requirements.
  • Coordinate engineering inputs to ensure successful delivery of grid connection packages.
  • Support procurement and management of ICP contractors and associated subcontractors.
  • Assist project teams with grid studies, protection settings, commissioning documentation, and energisation activities.
  • Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and operational phases.
  • Support the delivery of battery energy storage (BESS) projects and wider grid connection strategies.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across engineering processes and project delivery.

About You

The successful candidate is likely to have:

  • Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience managing grid connections at 33kV and 132kV (experience with 66kV, 275kV and 400kV advantageous).
  • Strong understanding of DNO, TSO and ICP processes.
  • Experience managing ICP contractors and connection works.
  • Knowledge of Grid Code requirements and electrical infrastructure design.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical workstreams simultaneously.
  • Existing relationships within DNOs, ICPs or the wider electricity industry would be advantageous.

Why Apply?

  • Join a leading renewable energy EPC delivering utility-scale solar and battery storage projects.
  • Work on nationally significant grid infrastructure supporting the UK's energy transition.
  • Hybrid working environment with flexibility.
  • Competitive salary and annual bonus.
  • Private healthcare.
  • Life assurance.
  • Employer pension contribution.
  • 33 days annual leave including bank holidays.
  • Employee wellbeing programme.
  • Ongoing training and career development within a growing renewable energy business.
