Director, Virtual Design and Construction Technologies
Location: Remote-flexible, with regular project travel

A growing design-build organisation focused on complex mission-critical infrastructure is seeking a Director of Virtual Design and Construction Technologies to lead its digital delivery capability across active projects. This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role, responsible for setting standards, improving coordination, and connecting design, field, and technology workflows across multiple project teams.

The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in a high-growth environment where processes are still evolving. This role combines program leadership with direct project involvement and will suit someone who can work across strategy, model coordination, and technology adoption while also staying close to the detail.

Role Overview The Director will lead the virtual design and digital delivery function across active mission-critical projects, ensuring that design models, coordination workflows, and construction deliverables are aligned from early data collection through to handover. The role will involve working closely with internal teams, external design partners, trade contractors, and field personnel to ensure model quality, practical implementation, and consistent adoption of standards.

As the organisation grows, this individual will also help build and lead a wider VDC / design technology team.

Key Responsibilities Digital delivery leadership
  • Define and implement standards for virtual design and digital delivery across all project phases.
  • Lead BIM execution planning and establish level-of-development requirements for multi-discipline projects.
  • Oversee the Autodesk Construction Cloud environment, related tools, and platform adoption.
  • Create workflows that are effective in both design and construction settings.
  • Help build and lead a future VDC / design technology team as the business expands.
Project coordination
  • Serve as the day-to-day VDC lead on active mission-critical projects.
  • Coordinate site data collection, federated model management, clash detection, and discipline model integration.
  • Work directly with external design firms, outside drafters, and subcontractors to align drawings and model outputs.
  • Support 4D scheduling integration, constructability reviews, and prefabrication coordination.
  • Manage model version control and handoff processes in a design-build environment where design and construction overlap.
  • Lead coordination efforts for mechanical, electrical, and technology systems in high-density mission-critical environments.
  • Support reality capture workflows and point cloud integration into Revit.
Stakeholder alignment
  • Translate between design intent, field conditions, and as-built verification.
  • Work with project managers, general contractors, trade partners, and ownership teams to align digital deliverables with scope and schedule.
  • Support pursuit efforts and client presentations where digital delivery capabilities add value.
  • Contribute to onboarding of subcontractors and design partners by setting model standards and coordination protocols.
Process and innovation
  • Identify and implement tools and workflows that improve project coordination.
  • Support digital twin development and structured asset handover deliverables.
  • Deliver training for internal staff and project partners on BIM / VDC workflows and technology.
  • Work with innovation leadership to evaluate emerging technologies, including AI, automation, and next-generation coordination tools.
Candidate Profile Required experience
  • 7 years of construction experience with progressive BIM / VDC leadership responsibility.
  • Experience coordinating complex infrastructure systems such as electrical switchgear, UPS, mechanical cooling, telecom, and BAS.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and the wider Autodesk ecosystem.
  • Direct experience coordinating with external design firms, drafters, and trade subcontractors.
  • Proven ability to author and enforce BIM Execution Plans and level-of-development standards.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to design, field, and ownership audiences.
  • Comfortable working in a high-growth environment with evolving processes.
Preferred experience
  • Experience building a VDC or design-build technology program from the ground up.
  • Autodesk certifications such as Revit, BIM Management, Dynamo, or ACC.
  • Familiarity with Dynamo scripting, Power BI, P6, MS Project, and laser scanning / point cloud workflows.
  • Background in MEP coordination within mission-critical environments.
  • Experience with digital twin development and structured asset handover.
  • Familiarity with prefabrication and modular construction workflows.
  • LEED AP or similar sustainability credential.
Personal attributes
  • High ownership mentality and proactive approach.
  • Collaborative and credible with both design teams and field crews.
  • Highly organised and capable of managing multiple active projects.
  • Self-directed and comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Practical problem solver with a bias toward workable, adoptable solutions.
Working Conditions This is a remote-flexible role with regular travel to active project sites. Work will involve mission-critical construction environments and therefore requires adherence to strict safety, access, and security protocols. Some off-hours coordination may be required depending on project needs.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary will be competitive and based on education and relevant experience.
  • Discretionary bonus eligibility tied to personal performance and company profitability.
  • Group medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Flexible spending account.
  • Voluntary life insurance.
  • Employer-paid long-term disability insurance.
  • Employee assistance program.
  • Safe Harbor 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Strong paid time off provision.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development.
