We are seeking a dynamic and technical specialist for the role of Global Sustainability Project Lead - Technical Manager, Buildings (Energy Efficiency & Architecture). In this pivotal position, you will spearhead the second phase of a groundbreaking Buildings project, a two-year initiative poised to revolutionize the way we approach sustainability in the built environment.
As the driving force behind the project, you will be a pert of a dedicated team to extend the guidance from building sector companies to encompass Architecture and Energy Efficiency firms. The focus is on influencing target setting, including embodied emissions, and pioneering strategies to reduce the demand for energy. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the global discourse on sustainability and contribute to a more energy-efficient future.
Job Purpose and Background: The successful candidate will contribute to the development of technical resources, guidance, and tools aimed at fostering the adoption of climate targets aligned with the ambition to limit global warming to 1.5°C, with a primary focus on the buildings sector. As a core team member, you will lead a project dedicated to creating guidance for 1.5°C-aligned targets within the built environment. Reporting to the Buildings Lead, you will be an integral part of the Sectoral Development Team.
About you: We are seeking a passionate buildings and sustainability expert, with an international perspective and technical expertise in energy efficiency or architecture, driven to utilize science-based approaches to significantly impact the decarbonization of the sector.
About the Team: The Sectoral Development Team focuses on developing sector-specific standards to empower companies in high-emission sectors to set science-based targets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop guidance, tools, and technical resources for the adoption of 1.5°C-aligned targets, with a specific emphasis on the buildings sector.
- Coordinate projects and manage stakeholders in line with the Sectoral Development Framework.
- Conduct research to identify scenarios, decarbonization roadmaps, and mitigation pathways for science-based target setting in the building sector.
- Support ad-hoc research and technical activities as required by the initiative.
- Coordinate and support outreach to stakeholders as part of consultative processes on technical projects.
Essential Skills and Experience Needed:
- 3-5 years of professional experience, preferably in civil engineering, architecture, climate change, sustainability, environmental engineering, and/or sustainable development.
- Proficient in mitigation pathways, climate scenarios, and decarbonization roadmaps.
- Strong knowledge of corporate GHG accounting and science-based target setting.
- Professional, effective, and flexible team player with experience working with high-level representatives from business, investors, and civil society.
- Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, and capable of working independently in an international and multi-cultural remote work environment.
- Fluency in English with excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desirable Criteria:
- Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
- Proven project management skills.
- Results-oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a constantly evolving environment.
- Experience working with the built environment sector.
This is a full-time role based in Europe, South Africa, United States, or Mexico. The salary will be dependent on location and experience. The position is a fixed-term contract for 24 months with the possibility of extension, reporting to the Buildings Lead. Interested candidates must be legally allowed to work in the specified countries, as the client cannot sponsor any working visas.
