Our client is an investment-backed group of companies with a strong track record of developing renewable energy assets across the UK and Europe. Over the last 10 years, the Group has invested over £1bn in UK solar on behalf of the funds it advises.

They have established a significant portfolio of new, subsidy-free solar projects, and are seeking a Project Manager to manage the planning process for their development pipeline.

Alongside remote working flexibility, they can provide support from their London and Bristol offices.

The Role

The Solar Project Manager will guide projects through the development process and ensure the alignment of developer, investor and landlord interests. This includes project managing the planning process and external consultants, liaising with Local Planning Authorities, engaging with landowners, working with an in-house engineering team and coordinating the community and stakeholder engagement process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understanding each site's characteristics, constraints and any planning challenges via site visits and desk-based studies
  • Working with external planning consultants tasked with the preparation of planning applications
  • Thinking strategically about ways to unlock projects which face challenges
  • Being comfortable and able to communicate effectively with external stakeholders
  • Working with the wider Development Team to identify new development opportunities and undertaking initial desk-based planning feasibility studies for those new opportunities
  • Generating template documents and disseminating them to the wider Development and Investment Teams providing regular updates

Additional Responsibilities

  • Visiting sites and engaging with landowners to gain an appreciation of site characteristics and constraints
  • Managing external planning and specialist consultants
  • Engaging with Local Authorities, Parish Councils and communities throughout the planning process
  • Commissioning and reviewing all planning related and environmental reports
  • Attending public consultations and planning committee meetings on behalf of the company
  • Liaising with Landowners / Land Agents as required to facilitate access for planning studies and ensuring consistency with landowner interests
  • Liaising with an in-house legal counsel to make sure leases align with planning requirements
  • Monitoring and reporting on progress including planning budgeting, development timelines and cashflow projections

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Degree level education
  • Project management qualification
  • Minimum of 5 years' Project Management experience, preferably in the land or solar sectors
  • Experience of managing external consultants and liaising with internal specialists
  • Ability and willingness to carry out onsite project assessments
  • Eagerness to learn and develop knowledge of renewable energy development
  • A good level of commercial awareness
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent IT skills, including and MS office and data room preparation and management
  • Ability and willingness to travel across England and Wales for site visits and meetings
  • Full drivers' licence
  • Experience of using planning/GIS software
