Senior Metocean Engineer

Our client is an operator of quality assurance and risk management company intended to safeguard life, property and the environment. The company's services include classification, technical assurance, software and independent expert advice to maritime, oil and gas and energy industries, enabling clients to advance the safety and sustainability of their business.


The purpose of the role is to deliver an efficient and effective metocean service into customer organisations in order to secure repeat business and project targets for the metocean business line.

The successful candidate will join as part of a team of Oceanographers and Metocean Engineers based in London, undertaking metocean studies using sophisticated oceanographic modelling techniques for the offshore renewable, and oil & gas sectors.

The successful applicant will spend approximately 70% to 80% of their time undertaking technical Metocean analysis work with the remainder spent assisting developing metocean tools and/or business development. The role is office-based but our client is working towards developing a hybrid model that will combine office and remote work.


  • To carry out metocean studies to produce data used for the design and/or assessment of fixed, floating and mobile offshore structures, pipelines, wind farms, etc. and the associated report writing in a timely, concise and efficient manner to be within budget and timescale.
  • To carry out numerical modelling studies using MIKE 21 software.
  • To assist the team in developing data analysis tools using MATLAB.
  • To assist the Team Leader with the business development by preparing proposals and with client and project management.
  • To collaborate with peers to deliver projects to a high standard.


  • Degree in Oceanography, Marine Engineering or related field.
  • Proven track record spanning several years of providing quality metocean advice and information to the offshore industry worldwide, on time and to budget.
  • Experience as project manager demonstrating client relationship management, tender preparation and project management through to report delivery.
  • Excellent computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office, Matlab (or any programming tools as Fortran or C ), and numerical flow and wave models.
  • Experience in modelling studies, ideally using MIKE21 software.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a strong command of written English. The clarity in verbal and written communication.
