Company and Role Overview

With broad capabilities and a highly commercial approach, this company delivers long-term, innovative renewable energy solutions to address energy and environmental challenges in partnership with landowners and local communities, creating a smarter, greener future.

The Project Engineering Team operates within the broader engineering function, providing technical expertise on systems and equipment, particularly PV, BESS, and related systems. The team collaborates closely with Grid and Transmission & Distribution engineers, as well as with Construction and Project Management teams. Externally, they work with partners and suppliers on various technical topics.

The Project Engineering Manager will lead a team of Project Engineers, focusing on the technical aspects of developing and delivering PV, BESS, and other renewable energy technologies. This role requires a strong understanding of key technical topics and a general awareness of the overall project workflow, which spans multiple related disciplines.

Responsibilities of the Project Engineering Manager

The Project Engineering Manager serves as the primary technical coordinator for developing, acquiring, and delivering renewable energy projects. Responsibilities include managing and supporting a team of Project Engineers for the following scope:

  • Conducting construction inspections to ensure design adherence, best practices, and compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Supporting EPC tender processes through specification creation and evaluating proposals.
  • Leading preliminary design efforts, including value engineering and optimizing utility-scale BESS and PV systems.
  • Assisting with procurement, including equipment specification, vendor selection, and contractor selection (both ICP and EPC).
  • Assessing sites for design and buildability, focusing on PV array and BESS components.
  • Performing yield assessments from the development phase through to operations.
  • Representing the team at industry events and panels focused on PV and BESS technologies.
  • Leading innovation projects and exploring new topics related to PV modules, inverters, BESS, and other generation technologies.
As a team manager, additional responsibilities include:
  • Collaborating on process improvement initiatives within Engineering and cross-functionally.
  • Identifying skill gaps and fostering engineering capability within the team.
  • Motivating the team and instilling a culture of precise, timely work delivery.
  • Encouraging innovation within the team and across the company.

Essential Requirements
  • Proven experience in renewables development, design, construction, and commissioning (or a subset of these stages).
  • Strong problem-solving skills for complex technical challenges.
  • Several years’ experience managing EPC contractors and Technical Advisors.
  • Experience collaborating with various renewable energy system stakeholders (investors, contractors, suppliers) with an understanding of their value drivers and risk tolerances.
  • Knowledge of core solar and BESS technologies and suppliers.
  • Understanding of best practices for PV and/or BESS design and cost optimization or comparable techno-economic optimization skills.
  • Familiarity with PVsyst or similar yield assessment software and tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, applied mathematics, or equivalent experience.
  • Broad network of industry contacts to bring insight and aid in problem-solving.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in low voltage AC and DC design.
  • Proficiency in data modeling/analysis.
  • Familiarity with standards applicable to utility-scale PV and BESS systems.
  • Team management experience (strongly preferred).
