Lead Environmental Consultant (Compliance)

Our client is an established international consultancy providing scientific, consenting, advisory and strategic expertise to the energy industry.


Our client continues to grow its support offering to the energy industry and now have a need for a Lead / Senior Consultant to join their Environment team.

Working as a key member of a busy Compliance team, you will provide support to a suite of consents for a number of industries including oil and gas, renewables, cables and aquaculture.

You will have good knowledge and experience of undertaking permits for the oil and gas industry in the UKCS, including MATs for drilling, pipeline, intervention, surveys, etc. and SATs for chemical permits, oil discharge permits, marine licences, consent to locates, etc.

Knowledge and experience in other industries is an advantage, however not essential for this role, as the skills are transferable and full training will be provided.


You will sit within the Environment Division but work with engineers across the business to deliver integrated project solutions, from concept design, site selection, EIA and construction support.

You will act as project manager across a range of consenting projects, taking the key client contact role on a day-to-day basis, and leading consultants within the team to deliver these projects on time and to budget. In addition, you will support the senior team with Quality Assurance of permits before client delivery and will provide training and senior support to the team.

Where your technical ability excels in a particular area, you would be expected to act as, or quickly become, an internal Subject Matter Expert.

  • Degree in relevant environmental (or other) discipline
  • Leading consenting activities in the oil and gas industry
  • You will have managed the preparation of MATs and SATs and fully competent in chemical risk assessments and EIA
  • Detailed understanding of the legislation in all parts of the UK relevant to the oil and gas industry
  • Project management ability
  • Commercial awareness
  • Expertise in marine environment subject matter
  • Effective engagement with stakeholders and regulators
  • Prioritising, planning, and organising own workload and team members
  • Accountability, including level of self-motivation and ambition, proactive in developing
