Our client is a global renewable energy developer who have been at the forefront of the energy industry for many years. They are looking for a Development Manager who will be responsible for developing / delivering the business units portfolio of utility scale energy storage projects.

Due to the Covid pandemic, staff are currently working from home but would be expected to return to the company office in Hertfordshire once the situation allows.



Responsible for the identification & securing; land, planning consent and grid; carrying out due-diligence, and development of utility scale energy storage projects, the successful candidate's duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Coordinating with internal company teams to apply fundamental site criteria (land ownership, resource, access to a grid connection, constructability, etc.) to select prospective project sites
  • Directly engaging landowners and land agents to determine interest in project participation
  • Representing the company in community settings and in front of large landowner or community groups
  • Co-ordinate with the UK&I land team & legal counsel to negotiate and execute land options and lease agreements
  • Coordinating with internal teams to manage and conduct environmental and ecological studies relating to the local planning process
  • Coordinating with company’s electrical engineering team to secure connection to the local grid network
  • Coordinating with company’s engineering and construction teams to conduct constructability due diligence
  • Prepare and submit planning applications to local planning authorities, liaise with local authority planners to progress applications, discharge conditions and other associated permits and consents
  • Generate project budgets, schedules, risk assessments and stage gate approvals
  • Building a portfolio of utility scale energy storage development assets and tracking project value
  • Assisting in any marketing activities or project sales
  • Maintaining an understanding of regulatory, and market forces for each of the regions in which we operate


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Exemplary oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with a strong inclination toward team building and participation
  • Excellent knowledge of project management and leadership
  • Sound knowledge and experience of UK planning legislation and policy
  • Comfortable with making and communicating decisions and recommendations
  • Comfortable with reading, reviewing, and negotiating contracts
  • Able to manage highly dynamic workflows and be able to switch quickly between projects and strategies
  • Good understanding of commercial aspect of renewable energy projects Working knowledge of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality regulations and be able to apply them effectively to utility scale energy storage projects



  • A Bachelor’s degree or a postgraduate qualification ideally accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), other qualifications will be considered based on experience.


Experience must include

  • Large scale commercial project development, real estate or land acquisition
  • Managing the full spectrum of core responsibilities independently or with limited over-sight
  • Managing development projects through to financial closing activity
  • Managing client interactions and delivering on time cost effective projects
  • Skills in MS Office and GIS software
